Cambodian Education Night

The Cambodian Education Night in Philadelphia was a successful fundraising event. More than 280 people attending the event. We have raised about $15,000.00 toward funding scholarship and other programs for poor, but bright Cambodian students in Cambodia.

Award Ceremony

On December 31st, 2008, the CEE Foundation-Cambodia organized an award ceremony for the scholarship recipients of 2007-2008 at at the Institute Technology of Cambodia (ITC). About 70 student recipients, faculty members from ITC, the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE), and guests attended the ceremony. Our Vice-President for Program, Chenda Smead and our Advisor Bernie Krisher participated in the ceremony, handed out checks to student. Click here for video clips in Khmer and in English from TVK coverage of the event.

Pchum Bend, Richmond, VA

On October 13th, the CEE Foundation joined the Cambodian communities in Richmond greater metropolitan area, Virginia, to celebrate the traditional “Phchum Bend” ceremony.  The Richmond communities and their leaders have expressed a strong support of our cause. They have agreed to host a fundraising party for us at Cambodian New Year, mid April 2008, date to be determined. View pictures at: http://www.ceefoundation.org/gallery/index.php

Our "Bon Phka" fund-raising event at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia, Washington , D.C. on September 22nd, 2007 was an enormous success. All the generous contributions will have a huge impact on the life of those poor but deserving Cambodian students who strive for success in higher education.

Our projected goals were greatly surpassed as we have raised US$13,467 as of September 30th before expenses. We estimate the expenses to be about US$1,500.

On top of the financial support, we gain moral support from the guests who attended the event.

We have also received additional new support from other organizations, including two from the United States (UCARE, Inc., and Angkor Association), and two from Canada (Fondation Enfants Cambodgiens, and Fondation des Etudiants Khmers.)

CEE Foundation has proposed a pilot program, Computer Lab in one High School of choice, with which the foundation will supply all computer hardware, selected educational software. The Ministry of Education will supply manpower, electricity and maintenance. The response was mixed. While supporting the idea, Dr Kol Pheng expressed difficulties ranging from manpower shortage to technical know-how. He said that the foundation should focus on scholarship program that is easy to implement and will have a big impact on Cambodian society in a good way.

3. Members agree to fund 10 students for school year 2007-2008. Next school year, 2008-2009, we will add 10 more students if funding allowed. At the minimum, we keep funding the 10 students already in the program.

Each scholarship recipient needs to reapply for renewal. New student must submit full application and supporting documents as required. Renew student need to submit certain documents (to be determined) and a grading report only.

The above policy will be implemented in 2007-2008. It could change when the sources of fund become more available.

Members also decided to create a local chapter in Cambodia to help a working group in the US in searching for qualified students, accepting applications, doing an initial screening. The working group in the US will process applications, select qualified students and disburse fund. The local chapter in Cambodia will monitor the progress of the students.
